The Standedge Tunnels

A New Publication by Trevor Ellis

Canal Society Vice Chairman and Volunteer Coordinator, Trevor Ellis, also volunteers with Canal & River Trust as a Boat Chaperone, accompanying private boaters through the Standedge Tunnel.  Through his observations, he became concerned that some of the previous publications concerning the tunnels (canal and railway) contained inaccuracies and that none covered them and their surroundings as a whole.  The book detailed much new research and unpublished work of the now late, Geoff Brown (a recognised authority on the tunnels), covering the canal and three railway tunnels.

The 74 Club

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal is hard work for boaters, so if you have navigated all 74 locks on this waterway, you deserve to treat yourself to a lasting souvenir to mark your achievement.

The Society has commissioned a brass plaque to acknowledge boaters who have ‘done’ the Narrow and they are available by application from the Society office.

Transit of the Standedge Tunnel is accepted as proof of navigation.

The plaque is available at £15 including p&p. Please add your boat name and Tunnel Transit date(s) in the ‘Instructions to Seller’ section of the PayPal form.
